ONE WORLD WEEK

OWW represents the aims of the St Anne's Justice & Peace Group

In OWW 2008 we are working towards:
Growing together – locally … by bringing together people of diverse cultures, of many faiths and none, to grow together in mutual understanding of our shared values and commitment to each others’ human rights locally and globally;
Growing together – globally … by learning more about how our local actions and personal lifestyles can affect the rights to a livelihood of members of our human family across the world, and what we can do to help.

“Sharing this fragile planet,
our rights are inextricably linked to those of our fellow human beings.
However far away the event may be,
if another human being anywhere is denied their fundamental rights
that impoverishes the world I inhabit.”

INTEGRATING LIFE AND FAITH

Integrating Life & Faith ILF is a training course to explore the role of Christians as citizens in society and the way in which, inspired by the Gospel, they can make a difference. It is accredited by the Craighead Institute and is held over 4 weekends between November 2008 and June 2009 at Loyola Hall in Rainhill.

The course is intended for anyone who would like to reflect on their faith/daily living balance and integration and to respond accordingly. Participants discover ways of working through an experimential approach aimed at integrating life and  faith.

Find more information and details of the 4 modules or contact Steve Atherton on 0151 522 1080; e-mail s.atherton@rcaol.co.uk or write for an application form from J&P Commission, LACE, Croxteth Drive, Sefton Park. Liverpool. L17 1AA

FAIRTRADE

St Anne's is a "Fairtrade Church" and serves Fairtrade coffe and tea at all its functions

Fairtrade LogoThe Fairtrade label is the only consumer label that focuses on ensuring that farmers and producers in developing countries receive an agreed and stable price for their crops, along with an additional income to invest in the future.

Traders must, if they are to use the label on their products, agree to:-

1. pay a price to producers that covers the cost of sustainable production and living
2. pay a premium that producers can invest in development
3. make partial advance payments when requested by producers
4. sign contracts of agreement that allow for long term planning and sustainable production practices

So what does this actually all mean?

It means that producers in developing countries get a fair price for their produce. One Tanzanian coffee Farmer, said that

"Without selling to the Fairtrade Market, our life would have been terrible. Fairtrade gives us hope and courage"

The investment premium allows producers to invest in schools, medical care and other infrastructure which improves the living standards of millions of people in developing countries – giving them "hope and courage" to face the future – a future they have more control over.

Fairtrade Fortnight, this year from 26 February - 11 March, is an annual promotional campaign of the Fairtrade Foundation that highlights the work of the Fairtrade Foundation.
