Traders must, if they are to use the label on their products, agree to:- 1. pay a price to producers that covers the cost of sustainable production and living So what does this actually all mean? It means that producers in developing countries get a fair price for their produce. One Tanzanian coffee Farmer, said that "Without selling to the Fairtrade Market, our life would have been terrible. Fairtrade gives us hope and courage" The investment premium allows producers to invest in schools, medical care and other infrastructure which improves the living standards of millions of people in developing countries – giving them "hope and courage" to face the future – a future they have more control over.
