St Anne's Catholic Church

Justice and Peace and Fairtrade

St Anne's Church, Ormskirk

The Justice and Peace Group at St Anne's was started in 1999 by a group of parishioners who believed that working for justice and peace in our parish, town, country and globally, is integral to being a Christian and is central to the life of the Church. The group endeavours to work through prayer, education and action and where possible to join with other groups in the town working for justice and peace. Among the groups aims are:

  • to stimulate awareness in the parish of the need for justice
  • to stimulate awareness of the churches social teaching and its relevance to justice and peace isues
  • to bring justice and peace into the mainstream of parish life

Some of the actions in the parish include:

  • Cancellation of debt in developing countires
  • Fairtrade and trade justice
  • Peace campaigning
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • Racial justice
  • Homelessness
  • Environment (see St Anne's policy document)
Justice and Peace

Through its membership the group has links with a local Peace and Justice group, Amnesty International, World Development Movement, Fair Trade, One World Week, CAFOD, Asylum and Refugee Groups, the Eden Project and other Environmental Groups.

We link with, and are part of, the Archdiocese of Liverpool Justice and Peace Commission

We meet on a Monday evening at 7.30 each month in the parish centre. We welcome new members at any of our meetings. These are usually advertised in the parish bulletin.
