St. Anne's Parish is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults of the Parish a well as safe and healthy working conditions for paid employees, volunteers and clergy who work with them. This Parish follows the guidelines set down by Liverpool Archdiocese. Aims; 1. To protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse and to provide a safe environment for them. 2. To provide an environment that supports and nurtures children, so that they may develop and mature as safe from harm as possible. 3. To assist parish workers and volunteers in identifying ways in which they can safeguard the best interests of the children, young people, vulnerable adults and themselves. Objectives: 1. To fulfil the requirements of the Archdiocesan guidelines as set out in the Archdiocesan document “Safe and Sound” 2. To provide a safe and secure environment for all vulnerable people in our care. 3. To raise awareness amongst adults working with children and young people, of Child Protection issues 4. To provide clear procedures for dealing with Child protection issues. Responsibilities: All members of the Parish community should work towards these aims and objectives by: 1. Having designated persons to deal with Child Protection Procedures 2. Being fully aware of their responsibilities and role with regards to Child Protection 3. Reporting any concerns to one of the designated persons. It should be remembered that the Parish, although having a crucial role to play in the recognition and referral of Child Protection issues, is not an investigative agency. Investigation is the statutory role of the NSPCC, Social Services and the Police; however, the safety of the children and young people in our care and our vulnerable adults, is our first priority and should surpass all else.
